Course Description

This 60 minute online video presentation is a detailed review of EMDR Stress Reduction Protocols, with both a theory and practice focus. Amy E. Kahn is an Approved Consultant and Facilitator with Trauma Recovery/EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs, and presents the lecture in this video. In this training video, Reggie Harris, Approved Consultant and Facilitator, joins her and they do a live demonstration of the 4 Elements Protocol and the Light Stream Technique. The live demonstration is done using two screens; this shows that these protocols can be done using a tele-health online platform.

Dr. Kahn presents the purpose of Stress Reduction Protocols, with an emphasis on developing and strengthening qualities that the client needs to reduce stress and achieve emotional stabilization during a prolonged crisis or post crisis. In addition, she describes and demonstrates 3 specific protocols and 2 methods of bi-lateral stimulation (BLS) that are effective using tele-health online platforms.

The following 3 specific protocols and 2 methods of bi-lateral stimulation (BLS) are presented:

  • The 4 Elements Stress Reduction Protocol• The Light Stream Technique
  • Diaphragmatic Breathing
  • And the Bi-lateral stimulation (BLS) methods
  • The Butterfly Hug

This course is designed for licensed mental health clinicians who have completed an approved EMDR Basic Training.

Skill Level of Audience

Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Only EMDR trained clinicians can obtain EMDRIA Credits.

What are 2 EMDR Stress Reduction Protocols?
Participants will be able to explain how stress reduction protocols enable clients to develop and strengthen adaptive memory networks. They will be able to state two advantages of using them with a client.
Use of the 4 Elements Protocol online
Participants will be able to describe and use the 4 Elements Protocols. They will be able to describe why each component of the Protocol is important, Earth for grounding, Air for diaphragmatic breathing, Water for activating the Parasympathetic Nervous System and Fire, for activating imagery of a calm/safe place.

Learning Objectives

Participants will review a brief overview of the challenges facing first responders to include changes in the laws, vulnerability to legal actions, community backlash, suicide, illnesses, PTSD and general family effects.
Participants will discover a variety of topics to assist with developing cultural competence, evaluate personal and professional practices, and build successful relationships with first responders.
Participants will discover the value, impact, and nuances of using EMDR with first responder populations with certain helpful protocols.

Amy E. Kahn, Psy.D.

Amy E. Kahn, Psy.D, is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Western Massachusetts, USA. Dr. Kahn is a Disaster Mental Health Counselor with the American Red Cross, a clinician on the Western Massachusetts Emergency Medical Services Team, and the Coordinator of the Western Massachusetts EMDR Trauma Recovery Network, all in the USA. Dr. Kahn is an approved consultant in EMDR and an approved consultant in Clinical Hypnosis. She has traveled extensively in Mexico, Central and South America, and has studied Spanish and folk dancing in Oaxaca and Cuernavaca, Mexico…a great balance with trauma treatment.

Certificates are awarded online after completion of the workshop. To receive your EMDRIA credits complete the entire course and complete the post-test, then print your certificate. For CE credits, participants print their own certificate after registering at CE-Classes.com, entering a keycode, and completing an evaluation form. Click here to know more.
