Course Description

This workshop focuses on how to use EMDR therapy to aid in recovery from behavioral and substance addictions. Focus is given to the connection between trauma and subsequent vulnerability to addictions. Participants will learn to identify when clients are “stable enough” to proceed with EMDR therapy. Concerns related to proceeding with clients who are not abstinent or in early recovery will be addressed. Introduction to the addiction focused protocols and how to identify when to use them versus the standard protocol.

Intended Audience

The target audience are those who are working with clients struggling with addiction and want to increase their confidence in working with this population effectively using EMDR therapy to increase stabilization and resolve trauma.

Skill Level of Audience

Intermediate.

Participants will describe the connection between trauma and the vulnerability toward addiction.

Participants will learn about the common needs of this population and how they relate to assessing stability.

Participants will explain when to address underlying trauma using Standard Protocol EMDR Therapy versus the use of Addiction protocols.

Meet the instructor

Sarah Osborne, LPC, LADC, NCC

Sarah Osborne, LPC, LADC, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Nationally Certified Counselor. She is a HAP Approved Facilitator, and EMDRIA Approved Consultant & Advanced Credit Provider who specializes in the treatment of addiction, complex trauma and dissociation. She has experience working in community mental health settings and private addiction treatment centers. Sarah is actively involved with integrating EMDR therapy into several addiction facilities across the levels of care. She is dedicated to promoting space for healing and wellness across diverse populations in her private EMDR practice, the work she does with first responders, and as a co-owner of a perinatal group practice. She provides ongoing individual and group consultation to all levels of EMDR professionals and consultants-in-training.

How to obtain your credits/certificates

Certificates are awarded online after completion of the workshop. To receive your EMDRIA credits complete the entire course and complete the post-test, then print your certificate. For CE credits, participants print their own certificate after registering at CE-Classes.com, entering a keycode, and completing an evaluation form. Click here to know more.
